Meet the artist & book signing Saturday 5th December 10.30 - 4.00
In his final year at the Royal College of Art James Dodds acquired an 1890's Jardine printing press, which soon prompted the launch of his new printing enterprise, the Jardine Press. Using the apparatus itself required precisely the kind of dexterity and concentration that James had perfected in his earlier training as a shipwright in the boatyards of East Anglia.
Now in its 25th year the Jardine Press has published numerous books and has produced the impeccably rendered and timeless images celebrated in this Anniversary exhibition of linocuts and woodcuts.
In these works James goes beyond mere ship portraits, showing them in intricately executed panoramas, and displaying his extensive knowledge of ship construction in his Shipyard series as well as delving deeper into maritime folklore with mythological subjects such as The Flying Boat of Clonmacnoise.
Alongside these works, we will also be showing a selection of James' oil paintings.
